Question: Jesus warned believers that the light in them may be darkness (Luke 11:35). The Bible says people who reject the Law of Moses have no light in them (Isaiah 8:20). Thus do most Christians today live in darkness?
Jesus was speaking to the Jews regarding Moses, and showing (as He said frequently) that He “came to the lost sheep of Israel” (at that time); and was therefore confirming the “Law of Moses” of the 1st. Covenant!
Your follow on point, has jumped to the situation for people today (“the Gentiles”), see Acts 28:25–28; and Isa. 6:9–10), which describes the change of Dispensation to “Gentile priority”, which has left the Jews in the state of “Lo-Ammi” (not My people); until Zech.12:10 is enacted; (Rom.9:24–33).
Thus the “2nd. Covenant”, which the Lord Jesus activated at His “Last Supper” with His Disciples, is in force now, and will remain so until the “number of the Gentiles is complete” (Rom.11:25–27).
The final implication in your question regarding “do Christians live in darkness”; my own opinion is no, in the sense of the Lord’s Holy Spirit, “The Comforter” is with them; and although because of aberrant and wrong teaching currently world- wide; the massive misunderstand cannot overcome “The Comforter”, where the person is determined; and prayerful!
